St David’s, Stormontfield

St David’s was opened in 1897 as a Mission Chapel to serve the workers and their families at the bleachfields at Stormontfield. There was great concern that the nearest church was, in fact, across the River Tay and that to get to Scone Old, it was an eight mile round trip, made on foot.

Services at St David’s have continued up to the present, despite the closure of the mills after a fire in 1971. New housing was built on the site of the mill and this led to an increase in numbers attending, and whilst still small, the then minister, Rev Ronald Roberston, was determined to keep the church open. This was continued by his successor, Rev Bruce Thomson and we have today an active, if small, number of regular attenders, augmented by people from Scone Old. Weddings still place on a regular basis as it is a wonderful country setting and a beautiful little church.
