The main talking point within the church is, of course, the awaited result of the arbitration process, to decide which of the two church buildings in Scone is to be used for the new united charge.
This will take place on Thursday 24th March and the congregations have been invited to attend the North Church in Perth at 7.00pm on that date to find out the result of arbitration.
The service of union for the three churches will take place on Wednesday 8th June at 7.00 pm, location depending on result of the arbitration.
Obviously the work of the church goes on, but the whole process of vacancy and union has dominated churchlife for the past fifteen months and it will be a huge relief to be able to return to life of a “normal” church – if there is such a thing – once everything is settled.
We had a visit from the Moderator of the General Assembly on 31st January. Rt Rev John Christie preached at the morning service and thereafter, had lunch with members of the three congregations in the Elizabeth Ashton Hall. Rev Christie has a close association with Scone Old as his mother was one of the first woman elders, and his father was the Free Will Offering Secretary. His uncle, George Ritchie, was editor of the church magazine and author of the book on the history of the church, “Stones of Destiny”.
The Moderator also presented six elders with long service certificates.
Mike Moir, Campbell Burns, The Moderator, Alan McKinnell, Frank Parkey and Gordon Lowe after receiving their certificates of long service.
